The first biennial China International Wire & Cable Trade Fair (refer to as wire China) & China International Tube & Pipe Trade Fair (refer to as Tube China), co-organized by Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute, Metallurgical Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Messe Dusseldorf China Ltd. held its grand opening ceremony on September 22 of 2004 at Shanghai New International Expo Center. Relative associations, research institutes from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and independently listed cities attended the opening ceremony. 8310 visitors/time visited the trade fair on the first day, with 890 overseas visitors from around 70 countries and regions.

The trade fair has acquired the full support from Messe Dusseldorf GmbH, who is the organizer of the world No.1 wire and tube event - wire/Tube Dusseldorf since 1986. And the support from: International Wire & Machinery Association (IWMA), International Wire and Cable Exhibitors Association (IWCEA) and its affiliated German Wire and Cable Machine Manufacturers Association (VDKM), International Wire and Cable Exhibitors Association-France (IWCEA-France) and Austrian Wire and Cable Machinery Manufacturers Association (AWCMA/VODKM), Italian Wire Machinery Manufacturers Association (ACIMAF), Wire and Cable Industry Suppliers Association (WCISA) for wire show, and UK-based International Tube Association (ITA) for tube show. Representatives of those above-mentioned upporters also attended the opening ceremony and visited the show as special VIPs. 683 exhibitors from 28 countries are displaying their latest products and technologies, with 374 international and 309 local exhibitors. The number of the famous exhibitors, the exhibition area and the number of visitors for the first biennial event are beyond expectation.

The continuous and rapid growth of China's national economy, Shanghai's central position at the 6th largest urban economic circle in the world, the development of the wire & tube industry belt along Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and Beijing-Tianjin Bohai Sea Surrounding Region, and the implementation of the strategy of "Western China Development", created a good market environment and condition for holding the first wire & Tube trade fair in China. The Organizing Committee said that the trade fair would be hold once every two years based on the success of this debut and that they would strive to bring high standard services to exhibitors and visitors and to make it one of the world famous events.
